NEW YORK (WABC) -- Expect a damp start to Wednesday, but there's good news later in the week as Thursday is shaping up to be the best weather day by far.

Rain will be around for the Wednesday morning commute, leading to wet roads and a damp start to the day. The good news is rain doesn't look heavy or widespread, though light showers could linger into the early to midafternoon, especially over Long Island and coastal areas. Skies should slowly brighten later in the day, particularly west of New York City.

It stays cool all day, with highs only reaching the mid50s, and that peak likely comes late. Breezy conditions add to the chill, but air quality remains good. Pollen levels are moderate, with maple, juniper, and poplar being the main contributors. The UV index stays low.

If you're planning outdoor time, Thursday is the day to do it. Expect sunshine filtered by a few high clouds, mild temperatures, and a beautiful spring feel. Highs soar to around 72 degrees, making it easily the most pleasant day in the forecast.

Friday still looks fairly mild, but it won't match Thursday. Clouds increase ahead of an approaching front, and while a spot shower is possible, especially north and west of the city, it's not a washout. Temperatures may flirt with 70 earlier in the day before cooling back toward 60 degrees.

The weekend forecast remains a bit unsettled, but it's not a total loss.

Saturday will be cooler and cloudier, with some rain possible, mainly south and west of New York City. Northern and eastern areas may manage some dry time, so hold off on canceling plans until the rain coverage becomes clearer. Highs hover in the low to mid50s.

Sunday is trending drier as rain shifts south and possibly offshore. Clouds may still linger, but there's hope for breaks of sun and slightly milder conditions, making Sunday the better day of the weekend.

Early next week looks decent on Monday, before another rain threat returns by Tuesday, keeping us in an active spring weather pattern.
