Infant killed by family dog

Neighbors say dog was friendly
BROOKLYN Authorities say the boy, reported to be just 8 months old, was attacked inside 71 Ocean Parkway at around 1:50 p.m.

Eyewitness News reporter Jim Dolan has more on the story.

Andrew Stein's parents never worried about the Doberman pinscher they had had since the dog was a puppy.

Neighbors say the dog was happy, well-trained and friendly. But this afternoon, that suddenly all changed as the dog attacked the baby.

And before the father could step in, little Andrew was dead.

An empty stroller was left on the fourth floor of the building, where the attack happened.

He was reportedly rushed to Kings County Hospital with a police escort, where he was pronounced dead. The child was mauled inside his apartment. Neighbors say the dog is docile.

"The dog was a very friendly dog, as far as I could tell," a neighbor said. "I would pet him and kiss him in the elevator.

Officials used a tranquilizer gun to pacify the dog, which was taken to the Center for Animal Care and Control in Brooklyn. No decision has yet been made about his fate.
