Tombstones toppled at Jewish cemetary

NEW BRUNSWICK Some of the stones were pushed over, some were smashed -- and for loved ones showing up today, it is an outrage.

"It looks like a bomb went off. It's terrible," Debi Verpent said.

Newscopter-7 was live over the cemetery where dozens of gravestones were toppled at the burial grounds along Joyce Kilmer Avenue.

Police are not calling this a hate crime, they are calling criminal mischief.

Nathan Reiss of Congregation Etz Ahaim says Sunday's vandalism at the Poile Zedek Cemetery comes days after a similar incident was discovered on Thursday.

A leader of the congregation says a total of about 500 headstones have been toppled over.
