There was a rude awakening for people in two neighboring communities on Long Island. They awoke this morning to find vandals had smashed the windows on about 40 cars making them undrivable and this isn't the first time it's happened.

The Port Washington police tells Eyewitness News 22 cars with windows broken was found in a parking lot on Soundview Drive.

Nassau police report that in nearby Manorhaven they have 18 cars on Edgewood road and Ashwood road that were also vandalized.

People tell Eyewitness News the reason they move out to the suburbs do so to avoid vandals like this.

"If you can't park your vehicle in your own parking lot, that's just wrong," said one victim.

People living in the area keep asking for better security especially since hundreds of cars were vandalized in the same location last year.

Police are stepping up patrols tonight.

Replacing car windows can cost hundreds of dollars.

Police have no suspects at this time.
