One killed in Northern State crash

LONG ISLAND Authorities say 32-year-old Juan Guzman, of 352 Wading River Road, was operating a 1989 Nissan two-door sedan southbound on Wading River Road when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle crossed over the double yellow line and then struck a light pole on the east side of the road.

Guzman was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were two passengers in the vehicle. Police say 23-year-old Santos Herrera Ortiz, of 26 Chichester Avenue in Center Moriches, was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center and was admitted with non-life threatening injuries. Herrera was reportedly in the back seat.

The front seat passenger, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center by police helicopter and was admitted in critical condition.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
