No. 2 pencil is No. 1 in the record books

ST. LOUIS MO-ABCNEWS The pencil's creator, Ashrita Furman says he came up with the idea after looking through the Guinness Book of World Records. The previous record holder's pencil measured 64 feet. So Furman decided to erase that record and pencil himself in as the new title holder.

So he spent two weeks, used 8-thousand boards of Douglas Fir and 45-hundred pounds of graphite to make the record-breaking writing utensil.

But this pencil wouldn't be complete without its massive eraser. Two-hundred pounds of rubber were used to make it.

The pencil's permanent home is at St. Louis' City Museum.
