Rabbi and wife killed in fire

NY rabbi and wife killed in fire likely caused by lightening
NEW ROCHELLE, NY Fire officials say Jacob Rubenstein and his wife Deborah were found inside the burning home at around 3:30 a.m., nearly 90 minutes after the fire started. It's possible the couple was asleep when the blaze sparked. Firefighters say it was an accident and was possibly caused by lightening.

Neighbors reported hearing a big boom around 3 a.m., but firefighters say the blaze likely started earlier and a propane tank found in the back yard caused the noise.

Jacob Rubenstein was a rabbi at the Orthodox synagogue Young Israel of Scarsdale. Congregation members gathered outside the synagogue to mourn and pray for the couple Saturday.
