Police: elderly man beat wife, kid

CONNECTICUT Troopers charged Clermont Genesse with attempted murder, assault on an elderly person and second-degree assault after securing the scene shortly after 1 a.m. Friday. He was held on $1 million bond and was to be arraigned in Rockville Superior Court later in the day.

State police say Genesse's wife, 83-year-old Francious Genesse, was in critical condition at Hartford Hospital. They say his daughter, 58-year-old Monique Gonsalves, was treated at the scene for minor knife wounds after she tried to intervene.

Troopers say the elderly couple had medical problems and were living at their daughter and son-in-law's home on Senate Brook Drive. Authorities would not describe the health issues.
