Many summer NJ rentals still open

NEW JERSEY Some landlords and real estate agents say they're still trying to book weeks at their rentals, and they think the economy and gas prices are to blame.

Debbie Beer tells The Record of Bergen County that she's been cutting weekly asking rents by as much as $500 on her five Point Pleasant properties. And she still has two-thirds of the weeks available for rent.

Eric Birchler of Birchler Real Estate in Lavallette says another reason there may be so many rentals is the slowdown of home buyers. Homeowners who may want to sell are instead renting for now.
