Man questioned in Brooklyn double murder

MARINE PARK - Police say Mark Schwartz and his wife, Christina, believed a former associate may have embezzled money from them in a real estate deal.

The man has not been formally named.

The slain couple's dog was found tied up in the backyard, but no one heard it bark. Police say the crime scene was very bloody, but there was no sign of a struggle or fight. These are the mysteries that homicide detectives are trying to solve as they search for a killer.

Police say the bodies of 50-year-old Mark Schwartz and 48-year-old Christina-Maria Petrowski-Schwartz, both divorce attorneys were discovered around noon Wednesday.

"It strikes me very funny, because they can't find nothing," neighbor Peter Vallone said. "They can't find the gun, they can't find nothing. How did they get killed? Somebody maybe didn't like them or something?"

Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood trying to answer that question. They are going door to door, asking if anyone heard or saw anything. The couple was found side by side in bed on the second-floor of their home. Each had a gunshot wound to the head. There was no sign of forced entry.

Police believe that the killer was known to the couple, who had a thriving family law practice a few blocks away. Investigators are looking into whether anyone involved in a case the couple handled may have been harboring some sort of grudge.
