Banner plane crashes at Jersey Shore

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. - July 26, 2008 Around 5:30 this evening the plane landed in the backyard of the Catalina Motel, which is located on Georgia Avenue directly off of North Wildwood Boulevard.

The pilot and sole occupant of the plane is identified as a Matthew Wolf, 25, of Strasburg Pennsylvania. Wolf suffered severe facial injuries and was treated at the scene by Cape May Court House Rescue and Paramedics then airlifted to Atlantic City Medical Center Trauma Unit.

Preliminary investigation reveals the plane suffered engine trouble, the pilot jettisoned the banner. Wolf was possibly attempting to locate an area to land, when the plane skimmed a tree and then came to rest striking a fence in the rear yard of the motel.

No one on the ground was injured.

The plane is owned and operated by Paramount Banner Planes of Green Creek.

Investigators from the Middle Township Police Department and the FAA are investigating the incident.
