LIRR service restored after accident

Service was restored, but delayed on the Long Island Railroad after a taxi was struck by a train. The accident happened at Atlantic Avenue in East Rockaway at 4:45 p.m..

LIRR service was suspended between Valley Stream and Long Beach in both directions. Eastbound service was restored around 5:30. Westbound service remained suspended until about 6:00.

Officials said commuters could expect delays up to one hour.

Authorities said the train was the 3:55 p.m. from Penn Station. It was due in Long Beach at 4:46.
