Trick-or-treat bandits strike on Long Island

MERRICK, N.Y. Police say the Long Island man was struck in the head after he answered his front door to three costumed men.

"As he opened his door, he saw he was about to be rushed, and he is rushed by Superman and two people who were following him," explained Det. Kevin Smith.

Police say the Spanish-speaking men forced their way into the man's home on Girard Place in Merrick Friday night and bound him. The victim's wife and child were not home.

The suspects took off with cash and valuables.

Police say the victim was able to free himself and go to a neighbor's house for help.

The Halloween night home invasion is under investigation. They believe the crime was random.

The victim was treated for a minor laceration to the head.
