Officers accused in shoplifting case

WALLKILL, NY For almost two years, two Wal-Marts in Orange County were ripped off by four people, two of them police officers who allegedly stole anything and everything. Police say the items were then put up for sale on eBay.

Police have arrested 41-year old Clifford Barber a part-time officer with the town of Montgomery and Kevin Burchell, who is an officer with the Tuxedo Park Police Department.

Authorities won't go into details, but they say the two were able to brazenly shoplift items several times a week with the help of Bryan Dunn - a Wal-Mart employee and another accomplice.

Police say they removed two small truckloads of stolen goods from multiple locations including Barber's house in Walden.

His chief issued a statement saying, "We are both disturbed and saddened by his activities as we know them to be."

The officers have been suspended. The suspects have been freed on bail.
