The fire broke out inside a Hunt Lane Village home just after 5:48 a.m. this morning.
A Nassau County fire official says one person was pronounced dead on the front lawn. As many as three others escaped the home.
It took more than an hour to get the blaze, which spewed a column of smoke, under control. The official says three volunteer fire departments responded to the blaze.
The fire appears to have started in the garage and spread to the house. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
