GOP boosts committee funds to lure Dems

ALBANY, N.Y. Senate Democratic spokesman Hank Sheinkopf (shine-koff) calls the move unethical and possibly illegal.

The Republicans would, for instance, provide greater power and nearly $6 million in funding to the next chairman of the Finance Committee.

Three dissident Democrats have not yet aligned with others in the conference or its leader, current Minority Leader Malcolm Smith of Queens.

One of the dissidents, Sen. Carl Kruger of Brooklyn, says he likes the idea, although the Republicans should have made the change before they faced loss of power.
