Signal problem causes NJ Transit delays

NEW YORK Delays were caused by signal problems which started when a piece of signal infrastructure caught fire in one of the tunnels under the Hudson River.

New Jersey Transit has two, single-track tunnels. The agency was forced to use only one track for inbound and outbound trains causing the delays.

All Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line and Midtown Direct trains in and out of Penn Station were delayed up to an hour during the evening rush hour.

Service improved after 9:00 p.m.
