Woman murdered in Melville

MELVILLE, NY Police were responding to a 911 call when they found the woman. Now, they are trying to determine who may be behind it.

Neighbors say the grisly murder of Dianne Edwards, 59, comes as a complete shock, since she is described as a friendly, lovely woman.

Dean Diorio owns a deli just down the street from where the murder mystery happened.

"Her and her daughter used to come in and get pickles," Diorio said. "They were the pickle girls."

Investigators said the cause of death is neck compression. No weapon appeared to have been used.

Police said neighbors have no reason to be afraid. There was no sign of forced entry.

A relative who lives one street over from Edwards' home on West Hills found her body. Around 4 a.m. Wednesday, he called police, saying he found her on the floor in an upstairs bedroom with blood gushing out of her head.

One neighbor says nothing has ever happened like this, and no one knows what to think.

"My daughter doesn't even want to go to school," James Delaney said. "How does it not scare you? It's a little weird."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS or the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.
