Thieves target ATM customers

December 22, 2008 7:43:36 PM PST
Some high-tech thieves on Staten Island are robbing ATM customers of tens of thousands of dollars from their bank accounts. The criminals targeted ATM customers at a Sovereign Bank in the Tottenville section.

Police say the tech savvy thieves planted a phony and sophisticated scanning device over the bank's card reader.

The crooks also installed a small camera to record customers as they entered their pin numbers.

Tens of thousands of dollars later, police are looking for the thieves.

The bank is reimbursing the customers.
