Window smashed in NY church break-in

MEDFORD The Rev. Marvin Hooks says it's unclear whether anything is missing after the break-in early Saturday at St. Mary A.M.E. Zion Church in Medford. He says several sacred objects used in services were knocked over.

Suffolk County police say officers responding to a burglar alarm at the church soon found suspect Richard Sager. The 42-year-old was arrested on burglary and criminal mischief charges.

Information on his arraignment and legal representation wasn't immediately available Saturday evening. A message left at a possible telephone number for him wasn't immediately returned.

Hooks says insurance will probably pay for replacing the 60-to-70-year-old window.
