Deadly fire on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND The Fire Department says Rosemary Brown was pronounced dead shortly after being found in her burning home on Staten Island around 4 p.m. Friday.

Eighteen-year-old neighbor Jack Chapman tells the Staten Island Advance he and others tried to throw water on the fire and rescue Brown, but they weren't able to get to her.

It happened inside a house in the five-hundred block of Craig Avenue in the Tottenville section.

The fatal fire came about 12 hours after a 40-year-old woman died in an apartment building blaze in East Harlem. Her identity has also not been released.

In the Bronx, five people suffered minor injuries from a blaze in their apartment building early Friday.
