February 12, 2009 7:24:27 AM PST
Three Con Edison workers were trapped in an underground elevator that broke down in the Port Morris section of the Bronx. The workers became trapped inside the disabled underground elevator at Con Edison's Hells Gate facility just after 8:30 a.m.

They were about 100 feet below ground when the elevator malfunctioned.

None of the workers were injured.

However, firefighters had to descend into the elevator shaft to rescue the workers.

It is not clear why the elevator became disabled.
