Fire leaves many homeless in Passaic

PASSAIC, NJ The fire started on the second floor of the house on Dayton Avenue just before 7 a.m. Heavy flames shot through the roof, and firefighters tried to stop them from spreading.

Some 20 to 25 people who lived in the building rushed out of the burning building, many in their pajamas.

The three families living in the home all escaped injury.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
