Kids, guns found in 'house of horrors'

MOUNT VERNON Authorities say weapons and pit bulls were confiscated, and children were removed from the home and turned over to a family member. The kids were reportedly living in filth, and dog feces were all over the place.

The Mount Vernon Police Department and Westchester County District Attorney's office, with the assistance of the Emergency Service Unit, conducted the early morning search warrant at 26 South 13th Avenue.

The search resulted in the arrests of 19-year-old Mark Ogilvie, 20-year-old Gladstone Dankin and 16-year-old Joseph Ogilvie.

The three young men face weapons possession charges.

Authorities say Ogilvie has eight previous arrests, including two with felony convictions. Dankin has six previous arrests, including four misdemeanor convictions.

Police recovered a loaded .32-caliber revolver, an assorted quantity of ammunition, as well as marijuana. Also removed were five pit bulls.

Immediately following the search warrant, a task force inspected the residence and declared it to be unsafe and dangerous to be entered. Three children, ages 6 months old to 4 years of age, were referred to Child Protective services for possible additional charges.

The house had no running water, no heat, collapsed ceilings and an illegal and dangerous electrical set-up, officials said. The additional nine residents of the residence were relocated to relatives' homes.

Numerous building and fire code violations are pending, as well as animal neglect charges.
