EDISON, N.J. Interstate 287 reopened shortly after 10:00 p.m., about six hours after the tanker rolled.

Accident happened at 4:00 p.m. as the tanker was approaching the toll plaza.

The truck rolled over on the ramp from the northbound 287/440 combo to the New Jersey Turnpike.

I-287 northbound was closed at Woodbridge Ave (Rt 514). Southbound lanes were closed at Route 1. The result was gridlock throughout the area.

The tanker driver complained of chest and leg pains. He went to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick.

Police said the tanker was carrying methyl alcohol.

Methyl alcohol is an inhalent danger and is flammable.

Hazmat crews took extra precautions as they emptied the tanker over the course of a few hours.
