Police searched the school and surrounding neighborhood, but could not find him.
The boy's mother went to the school while investigators continued their search.
Police located the boy around 6:30 p.m. next to a 99 cent store on 180 and Bronx Parkway East.
Investigators believe that the boy walked the entire distance to the store, about 50 blocks from the school.
