Car crashes into side of church

JERSEY CITY The driver, 35-year-old Lisa Joseph, lost control and careened into the church, on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, just after 9:15 p.m. Joseph was not injured and went home after the crash.

She was charged with driving with a suspended license and reckless driving. Joseph told police she was cut off by another car, causing the crash.

Earlier this month, the same church was ransacked and burglarized.

Thieves smashed in three of the church's doors and stole two snow plows worth about $540 from a storage garage. They also knocked over almost every pew in the sanctuary and toppled the lectern.

No arrests were made in that case.

The church's pastor, James N. Rembert, said anyone who would like to help the parish recover from the theft and damage can call (201) 341-9490.

The church was established in 1969. Some 40 to 50 people attend Sunday services.
