Animal control removed dozens of cats abandoned in a home in Queens. Investigators said the owner from evicted from the home at 56-30 61st Street in Maspeth.

Flies, garbage and animal feces littered the apartment. The smell was so bad, it spread throughout the building. Crews needed masks to go inside.

As many as fifty cats were found in the apartment along with a big dog.

The building's owners found the cats on Friday and called Animal Care and Control. It's not clear how long the cats have been there.

Authorities said the animals had been without any food or water for some time, but they believed the cats and dog would survive.
