Rain closes dozens of LI beaches

NEW YORK Officials closed the beaches on Friday, June 5, 2009, until further notice.

All 17 Nassau County Beaches are closed.

On the South Shore in Nassau County 4 beaches are closed.

Officials say storm water runoff can have a negative impact by elevating bacteria levels that are used to assess bathing water quality.

The closed North Shore Beaches are:

1. Bar Beach
2. Centre Island Bay
3. Centre Island Sound
4. Creek Club
5. Crescent Beach
6. Lattingtown Beach
7. Laurel Hollow Beach
8. Morgan Sound
9. Piping Rock Beach Club
10. Pyrbil Beach
11. Ransom Beach
12. Roosevelt Beach
13. Sea Cliff Village Beach
14. Soundside Beach
15. Stehli Beach
16. Tappen Beach
17. West Harbor Beach

The closed South Shore beaches are:

1. Biltmore Beach Club Beach
2. Hewlett Point Beach
3. Island Park Beach
4. Merrick Estates Civic Association Beach Phillip Healey Beach
