Mother charged with baby's murder

BRONX The baby weighed just 18 pounds.

While authorities don't exactly know what caused the head injuries that led to a brain hemorrhage, investigators say they know who caused the injuries. The accused is the baby's mother.

His name is Cashmere Obama Randell. He was born on election night. His parents named him after the new president.

The 7-month old died, the medical examiner said, from a vicious shaking and injuries to his head.

"Just sadness... We're all pulling together... We'll make it work," the victim's aunt, Ciara Lawrence, said.

Police arrested Naisha Riley and charged the 20-year-old with her son's murder.

Investigators found the baby unconscious and unresponsive on Monday night inside the home of Riley's boyfriend at 724 East 222nd Street. No one answered our knocks on the door.

Riley's relatives told us the boyfriend is responsible for what happened to the baby.

"Only thing I can think of is the baby was crying. She wasn't there," said Rodney Riley, the suspect's brother.

"She was out getting her paycheck and some Pampers and when she came back the baby was already at the hospital. She was not there," Lawrence said.

Naisha Riley has no history with the city's Administration for Children's Services, officials said.
