Undercover cop kills man during struggle

BROOKLYN Police say the incident happened just after 8 p.m. in front of 370 Lafayette Avenue.

The 36-year-old officer was reportedly involved in a struggle over his firearm with 49-year-old Shem Walker, who had told the officer to get off his family's stoop. Authorities say the officer was repeatedly beaten about the head and sustained a laceration to his head.

Police say the officer's firearm discharged as Walker grabbed the gun with both hands. He was hit once in the chest. EMS responded to the scene and transported Walker to Brooklyn Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

It is unclear if the officer identified himself, but it appears that he did not.

There were reportedly two undercover officers on the block. The officer sitting on the steps was watching apparently watching the other trying to buy drugs from an unknown person.

The injured officer was transported to Long Island College Hospital, where he received two stitches to his head.
