Yankees player Alex Rodriguez has donated a quarter of a million dollars toward a mobile dental clinic that will serve his old New York City neighborhood. The third baseman launched the dental van Thursday at Middle Schools 328 and 326 in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood.

To underscore the importance of good oral hygiene, Rodriguez will appear with dozens of students. The youngsters will receive signed baseballs and free dental supplies.

The van will be run by Columbia University's College of Dental Medicine.

Rodriguez donated the $250,000 to the college's DentCare program, which serves northern Manhattan residents.
