Standoff ends with suspect dead

BROOKLYN Police had responded to a call of an abduction at 11:16 Saturday morning at 607 Brighton Beach Avenue.

A 19-year-old woman told investigating officers that her ex-boyfriend had abducted and raped her.

ESU and Hostage Negotiations officers were called to the scene. They tried negotiating with the suspect, 20-year-old Samuel White, for over five hours.

Four officers finally entered the apartment at 5:10 p.m. Police said White, armed with a 12" kitchen knife, lunged at the officers. One of the officers fired a Taser at the suspect which struck him with little effect.

A second officer then fired one shot. Police said White lunged a second time with the knife at the officers, striking one of the officers in his bullet resistant vest.

Investigators said two of the officers then fired five times, striking White an undetermined number of times. He was transported to Coney Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
