Sketch released after teen abducted

Police on Long Island have released a sketch of the man accused of grabbing a 15-year-old girl off the street and threatening her with a knife. The victim was eventually released, unharmed, but the incident has people in the community nervous.

"That's sad," parent Shannon Blanco said. "The girl can't even walk home from school. She's walking to her friend's house. She can't walk to her friends house without getting abducted by some stranger." Parents are upset and troubled over reports that a predator is on the loose. On Monday afternoon, the victim told police she was grabbed off the street and thrown into a red pickup truck. Police have now released the above composite sketch of the suspect

Lauren Bernstein has two teenage daughters.

"I told them to basically stay away from strangers," she said. "They know all of that. Not to go near cars. I walk them to the bus stop now. They used to walk themselves."

Police say the girl was walking to a friends house when a truck pulled over at the intersection of Chapman Boulevard and Hot Water Street. She claims a passenger forced her into the back seat.

"The passenger made repeated demands for sexual acts," police lieutenant Gail Marrero said. "She was held down on the rear seat of the vehicle. At one point, the passenger held a knife to her face."

"It's horrifying and sick to know that someone would even do something like that to a young girl," resident Carissa Sauter said. "It makes you scared. You can't even walk down Chapman by yourself."

Police say the girl was released near Sunrise Highway after hours of terror. School officials in Manorville sent out notices this week. Most of the students in the district are bused to and from school. But parents and kids are taking extra precautions.
