Firefighters rescue 2 from Bronx fire

BRONX Newscopter-7 was live over the scene.

The fire apparently broke out on the 10th floor of an apartment building in the Bronx River Houses on East 174th Street just before 6:15 a.m.

Eyewitness News is told a teenage girl was rescued by firefighters in the smoke filled apartment. She swallowed a large amount of smoke when she was trapped by the flames.

Her grandmother, also in the apartment, was also helped out by firefighters.

Officials say both victims were stabilized at the hospital.

Firefighters quickly put out the blaze and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
