New pedicab rules have an impact

New York Officers issued a total of 52 tickets and seized one pedicab as part of the new crackdown on Saturday.

Friday was the deadline for pedicab operators to apply for a business application and obtain a license.

The city says the goal of the new law is to limit the number of pedicabs on the streets.

In fact, some of the pedicab owners told Eyewitness News reporter Jim Dolan that they predict about half of the pedicabs now on the street are not fit.

For now, the industry is apparently okay with that. Fewer pedicabs mean more money for the ones who are left. Greater regulation means people will stop looking at them as outlaws.

Cab drivers in the city say it's about time pedicab drivers had the same regulations that cover taxis.
