Police involved shooting in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY The shooting happened at Dwight Street and Bergen Avenue around 8:30 on Sunday night.

Authorities have not released details of the circumstances that led the officer to open fire on the 18-year-old suspect.

It's the reality of these streets, neighbors said.

It's the type of place where neighbors don't leave their homes unless they must.

The sound of gunshots is nothing new for the people in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred.

"I'm used to it already," Melvin Johnston said.

Darrel Shivers says he got the frantic call from his mother saying his nephew, Quadar Felden, was shot by police.

Felden was taken to Jersey City Medical Center. His condition was not immediately known.

"I don't know what happened," Shivers said.

Neighbors say another young man was shot recently on the same block.

They're at a breaking point.

"This city needs to get it together," Kerry Morris said.

The police officer was not hurt.
