NYU students in Haiti found safe

NEW YORK Nathalie Pierre and Greg Childs arrived in Haiti on Monday.

They are both history students, doing research in Haiti as part of their PhD program.

They are both U.S. citizens, enrolled at NYU.

NYU said that one of the students contacted them on Thursday night. Both are safe and well in the Dominican Republic en route back to the U.S., the university said.

Details were still emerging, but the university believed the students were flown out of Port-au-Prince by the Coast Guard.

"We're overjoyed to know they are coming home, safe and sound. This is a very happy ending to this story," spokesman John Beckman said.
