Turnpike repairs causing Lincoln Tunnel problems

NEW YORK This problem started around 4:00 p.m.

A big hole opened on the southbound side of the NJ Turnpike eastern spur near Exit 15X. That meant emergency repairs.

A NJ Turnpike Authority spokesman said two lanes were shut down on the southbound eastern spur. Both lanes remained closed while repairs were made. They reopened around 6:30 p.m.

The repair work meant only buses were let out of the city at the Lincoln Tunnel. Even after the tunnel reopened to all traffic, delays up to an hour were expected.

Car trafficwas diverted to the Holland Tunnel and GWB while crews fixed the hole in the turnpike.

The ramp from 495 to the southbound eastern spur was also closed. Traffic was diverted onto Route 3.
