Conn. cop uses cruiser to stop wrong-way driver

State police say a Connecticut trooper stopped a wrong-way driver in East Hartford by placing his cruiser in front of him, then leaping away from the collision. Police say Trooper Kenneth Freed entered the eastbound high occupancy vehicle lane on Interstate 84 after reports at about 1 a.m. Saturday that the driver was heading west inside it.

They say Freed stopped his cruiser as the driver approached, then dove over the median as the wrong-way driver hit the patrol car head-on.

Both vehicles received major damage, but Freed wasn't hurt. The driver of the other vehicle, 64-year-old Bruce Anderson of Glastonbury, was treated for minor injuries.

State police said the investigation was ongoing, but they anticipated an arrest.

A call to a listing for Anderson was not immediately returned.
