Conn. cop uses cruiser to stop wrong-way driver

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. Police say Trooper Kenneth Freed entered the eastbound high occupancy vehicle lane on Interstate 84 after reports at about 1 a.m. Saturday that the driver was heading west inside it.

They say Freed stopped his cruiser as the driver approached, then dove over the median as the wrong-way driver hit the patrol car head-on.

Both vehicles received major damage, but Freed wasn't hurt. The driver of the other vehicle, 64-year-old Bruce Anderson of Glastonbury, was treated for minor injuries.

State police said the investigation was ongoing, but they anticipated an arrest.

A call to a listing for Anderson was not immediately returned.
