Teen critical after struck by SUV on Staten Island

A 16-year-old boy was struck by an SUV while crossing busy Richmond Avenue in the Eltingville section of Staten Island.

The victim was hit by a northbound 2004 Hyundai Sante Fe while crossing near Bartlett Avenue just before 7 a.m. Tuesday.

He was rushed to Staten Island University Hospital North in critical condition.

The teen, who was walking to school, was apparently hit by a teacher driving to school.

They are both believed to have been heading to nearby St. Joseph by the Sea.

The teacher stopped at the scene and no charges were immediately filed.
