Suffolk County police pulled over 35-year-old Ellisha Haynes, of Dix Hills, in the northbound lanes of Carlls Straight Path after she made a right turn onto Corwin Court at 12:35 a.m. Police had previously received a 911 call reporting that Haynes was driving while intoxicated with her child in the car. Upon interviewing Haynes, police determined she was intoxicated and placed her under arrest.
Under the recently enacted Leandra's Law, Haynes was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger less than 16 years old. She was also charged with driving while intoxicated and endangering the welfare of a child.
The child was released into the custody of the father.
