Lightning strikes cause 2 fires in Washingtonville

WASHINGTONVILLE, NY

A blew through the central part of Orange County late Monday afternoon, into the early evening.

Washingtonville firefighters first received a call of a lighting strike on McLaughlin Way.

They arrived to find the home filled with smoke.

The woman was so shaken up she had to be taken to the hospital.

Minutes later, lightning struck again.

This time it struck at a townhouse on nearby Cartwheel Court.

Firefighters called for backup from neighboring towns.

Nearly a dozen families were evacuated.

Firefighters quickly put out the flames, but the smoke lingered for a couple of hours.

Fortunately, no one was injured.
