Teen dies in fall from Croton Reservoir Bridge

CROTON, NY

But, that picturesque location turned deadly for a 19-year-old man who was sitting on the bridge and slipped.

His body has now been recovered.

"It's hard to believe this where we started the summer and this is where his life ended," said the victim's friend, Kristyn Notholt.

Kristyn Notholt and Caitlin Pfister placed flowers and posted photos at the spot where their friend lost his life.

"(He was) fun-loving, always put a smile on your face, so full of life," Pfister said.

Just after midnight Sunday, 19-year-old Brendan Frail and three friends were on the former railroad bridge above the Croton Reservoir in Croton, when the teenager slipped from the edge and fell.

It appears alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

"He was probably unconscious when he hit the water. I'm sure it was dark out. They frantically tried to get to him but they couldn't," said the victim's uncle, Tom Frail.

It is about a 40-foot drop from the bridge to the water.

It appears Brendan Frail struck his head on the way down.

The Medical Examiner said the teenager suffered a brain contusion and drowned.

A YouTube video Eyewitness News found clearly shows that the reservoir bridge is a popular summer hangout and fun spot for kids, who routinely jump into the water to cool off.

"I think we can all relive what we did as young people and teens. I guess we can all say we did something like that once in our lives," the victim's uncle, Kevin Frail.

The city's Department of Environmental Protection monitors activity in the reservoir.

A spokesman told Eyewitness News the agency will now increase patrols near the bridge.
