Sotheby's auctions off vegetables for charity

NEW YORK

"It's definitely the most interesting thing we've ever auctioned off from a charitable perspective,"

Going up on the auction block is vegetables, specifically heirloom vegetables.

Sotheby's says the timing couldn't be better for this vegetable auction.

What will make those even more delicious is the fact that money raised through the auction in part benefits Liz Neumark's program called "The Sylvia Center at Katchkie Farm" where kids learn about healthy eating and cooking.

Auction goers will not only bid on the produce, they'll also bid on farm and chef experiences, and also art.

P. Allen Smith is a farmer, artist, TV host, and co-chair for the event.

He donated the proceeds of one of his artworks, because he too wants to raise awareness for the farming movement.

The auction house is known for selling one of a kind objects, and these are one of a kind objects that just happen to be edible.

The auction is Thursday evening at Sotheby's and there are still tickets available, but you can also go to the farmers market that will be set up outside Sotheby's Thursday.

The sale of heirloom tomatoes goes toward the charitable pot.
