Several blasts were heard before police, wearing gas masks, charged into a home where a man had been holding his wife hostage at gunpoint.
The standoff lasted for several hours.
Police told residents to stay in their homes, sending out a reverse 911 call to people in the neighborhood.
The hostage was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
