HARTFORD, Conn.

Albert James Voute III, most recently from Oradell, N.J., was fatally shot Friday by a state trooper after a traffic stop on Interstate 84 in Danbury. State police say he was driving a stolen car.

State Police say the 36-year-old Voute escaped a U.S. Marshal's transport service in Martinsburg, W.Va., on Sept. 15. Police say he was serving a 14-year sentence for bank robbery.

Authorities say Voute pointed a gun at a state trooper who shot him. Police say Voute did not fire his gun.
