Police responded to a Garden Street home at about 1:45 p.m. on Sunday where they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
Authorities say the girl, identified as Jamece Hudson, and a friend were handling the gun went it went off.
The person who fired the gun and other witnesses allegedly fled the scene.
Police later apprehended the person suspected of firing the weapon, and the gun itself, but there were no immediate arrests.
The shooting remains under investigation.
