A Brooklyn middle school student opened his medication from home Friday, apparently causing his classmates to feel sick.

Authorities say the eighth grader opened the medication inside Frederick Douglass Academy on Pennsylvania Avenue just after 11:30 a.m.

Seven students and three teachers who were standing nearby suddenly felt nauseous.

They were being evaluated by medical workers.

The medication is believed to be a cough syrup concoction.

The middle school is located in Starrett City.
