Source: Police recover weapon in baker's murder

BROOKLYN

Mervyn Johnson was shot to death Tuesday night outside his apartment building at Brooklyn and Lefferts avenues in Crown Heights.

Even as friends and family mourn, sources say police have surveillance video that may show the suspected killer stashing the gun on a light box on nearby Sterling Street.

The murder came just a week after Johnson was robbed.

His brother sees a connection.

"This is why they shot him in the head," Alvin Johnson said. "Because he knew who was doing it...They did a job, and then they came back and finished it."

Mervyn's bakery was a fixture here in Crown Heights for nearly 30 years. Everyone in the neighborhood knew Merv, and now they are mourning his murder.
